Will
of Richard CULPIN, Woodnewton,
Northamptonshire : 1757
In
the Name of God Amen. I Richard Culpin of the Parish of Wood=newton
in the County of
Northampton Labourer, being of a Sound Mind and memory (praise be
God). Do make ordain and declare this my last Will and Testament
in Manner and Form following. First of all I will and
ordain that my Funeral Charges and Debts be paid and discharged.
Also I give devise and bequeath all my Copyhold
or Customary Lands lying and being dispersed in the Several
Fields of Wood=newton aforesaid containing by Estimation five Acres
of Arable Land and Ley Ground (be the same more or less) with their
and every of appurtenances (after the decease of my wife Rachel
Culpin) to my eldest son Richard Culpin his heirs and assigns
for ever but upon this proviso or condition
Nevertheless, That He the said Richard Culpin his Heirs Executors
Administrators or Assigns Do and Shall within twelve Kalendar Months
after He or they shall be in the actual possession of the said land
pay or cause to be paid the several sums to my other children that
is to say to my son Henry Culpin the sum of five pounds, to my Daughter
Elizabeth Culpin the like sum of five pounds, and to my son Charles
Culpin the sum of six pounds. Also I give and bequeath unto
my said Daughter Elizabeth
Culpin the following household goods and that is to say, The Bed,
Bedding and bed=stead with their appurtenances standing and being
in the chamber of the house where I now dwell, six pair of Hempon
Sheets, my large looking glass, four of my least best Pewter Dishes,
six pewter Plates, twelve wooden trenchers, my best porridge pot,
and the second best Kettle, my chest of drawers, one of my largest
oval tables, a side board table, Coffer and Kneading Trough, six
black chairs and one pair of pot hooks. All and singular the residue
of my goods, Cattle and Chattel, I give and bequeath unto my said
wife Rachel Culpin, whom I also nominate
and appoint my sole executrix of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have here unto put my hand and Seal this thirtieth
day of November in the the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred
and Fifty Seven
